How we actually arrive at a recommendation
We want to be precise about this, because a lot of sites are not.
We do not run a test lab, and we do not claim to. We have not personally destroyed a deck, seized a pump or burned out a motor, and we will never write as though we have. What we do instead is read the things most buying guides skip: manufacturer specifications and operator manuals, installation instructions, safety data sheets, trade-body technical notes, standards documents where they are readable, and peer-reviewed work where it exists.
That approach has a real consequence you will see in the articles. Where a figure everyone repeats turns out to have no source behind it, we say so and leave it out rather than passing it on. Where a manufacturer contradicts itself, we publish both of its statements and say which one we would follow. Where the honest answer is that nobody has measured something, we write that down instead of filling the gap.
What affiliate links do not change
No manufacturer pays us to be included, excluded or ranked, and no brand sees an article before it is published. A commission is identical whether a product turns out to be the right answer or the wrong one, so recommending the wrong one earns us nothing and costs us a reader.
The most common thing we do on a buying question is tell you not to buy. If the honest answer is that a garden hose, a brush and some dwell time will do the job, the article says that — several of our most-read pieces conclude exactly that, and they carry no affiliate link at all.
We do not publish prices
You will not find a price written into any article on this site, and that is deliberate. Prices on Amazon change daily, so a figure typed into an article is wrong shortly after it is published and stays wrong until someone notices. A reader who trusts a stale number and plans a purchase around it has been misled by us, not by Amazon.
So our product links read Check price on Amazon, and they take you to the live product page where the current price, the current specification and the current availability are the ones Amazon is actually showing. This is also the approach Amazon itself recommends.
The one place a number does matter to us is behind the scenes: we check a product category genuinely contains serious equipment before writing about it, rather than building an article around something trivial. That check stays internal. It never becomes a price quoted at you.
We also cannot guarantee a product is still in stock, still the same revision, or still sold in your country. Check the product page before you buy.
